There’s one thing the little town I live in does big…

CHRISTMAS!

It began last night with the annual town center tree lighting and caroling. After which we started a new tradition at our house of having friends over for homemade soup. I made the potato soup from the recipe I posted a few weeks ago, and it was the perfect way to warm up on a chilly winter evening.

Today, was our town’s annual Christmas parade

It really is a big deal here and lasts for more than 2 hours. School bands, troops, restaurants and businesses come from all around to be in it. It is somewhat of a dress-rehearsal for the bigger, televised City of San Jose parade that is held tomorrow.

Here are a few photos of the fun we watched today:

marching bands in parade
Lots of school bands of course for what's a parade without bands?!
bagpipes
or bagpipes for that matter...
band mascots
and of course the band mascots...
Stanford marching band
but when you see the dancing tree, you know it's the Stanford band! The funkiest band around! They look like they're having so much fun!! Gotta love the costumes!
brownie troops
So many precious kids in brownie troops...all dressed up and singing carols!
random parade
The parade also had some funky floats, unique cars, cute animals and blessings for our troops.
old cars in parade
From the old cars...
SF Giants float
to the World Series Team Support...
roasting chicken float
to the chicken roasting entry (um, don't ask), and
synchronized swimming team
the local sychronized swimming team (who knew we had one of those)..

there was something for everyone.

But I must say my favorite thing to see was

boys at parade
These precious faces enjoying a holiday tradition!
