Okay, be honest, when you saw the original “Jungle Book” cartoon, you kinda wished you were Mowgli living with the animals in the jungle, right ? Or was that just me?

Well, maybe not Mowgli sitting in the rain as above, but nevertheless, his carefree, fun-with-animal-friends was appealing.

This latest release is all-new live-action remake of the adventure about Mowgli, a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. It’s directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book”. AND it looks amazing done as only the creative genius of Disney filmmakers can do.

Sure, parts of the story are scary:

And some are serious:

But there is also a TON of fun to be had as who doesn’t know the iconic song “The Bare Necessities”?

The cast of Disney’s THE JUNGLE BOOK is simply amazing! Idris Elba plays Shere Khan, Scarlett Johansson plays Kaa, Lupita Nyong’o plays Raksha, Sir Ben Kingsley plays Bagheera, Christopher Walken plays King Louie, Giancarlo Esposito plays Akela, and Bill Murray plays Baloo!

AND you can’t forget the sweet face of Neel Sethi who stars as the adorable Mowgli and the films only human character!!

I, for one, am super excited to see this latest version coming out on April 15th. (I am lucky enough to be going to a special screening on the 12th and will share all about it on my other social media channels!)

MOVIE REVIEW (no spoilers):

WOW!

Truly this movie is fantastic!

I loved it and would highly recommend it. I give it a 4 out of 4 STARS rating!

It’s a child’s story told “IronMan” style as only Jon Favreau could do it. But don’t be fooled, it’s definitely not just for kids.

When you enter the theater, bring your imagination and let it be free. It won’t be hard because this movie is so incredibly realistic that it boggles my mind thinking about how the Disney Studio artists do this!

There are so many exciting sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat moments, so breathe before it starts and prepare yourself.

The actor Neel Sethi, who plays Mowgli the man cub, could not be a more perfect fit for the character. He is exactly what you’ll remember from the previous Disney animated version but in human form. I read they looked at over 2,000 boys before picking him and I don’t see how they could’ve made a better choice.

One of the main story lines of the movie questions how do you define who is your family and where you belong. As a Stepmom, I can relate to Raksha the mother wolf – played by Lunito Nyong’o – who has raised Mowgli and wants him to know he is and will always be her son. The first time I went to my husband’s home and met the daughters I would raise, I was overwhelmed with a feeling of belonging. I just simply knew that this was where I was supposed to be. My girls, Mimi and Libby, were my daughters in my heart way before I said my vows to their dad. Just as Mowgli knew he belonged with his Jungle family, I knew I belonged with mine. The overwhelming feeling in your heart and soul just make it so and you couldn’t change it or give it up even if you tried.

Being a bit of an emotional person, yes, I did tear up at the end, but in a good way!

If you bring your little, little ones prepare them for some of the intense scenes. If they love action and adventure films (again, think “IronMan”), then they’ll do fine. There are certainly a lot of fun and light-hearted scenes intermixed giving you a chance to laugh and catch your breath.

In a random thought, I was wondering could this movie possibly motivate children to step away from their video games and play outside in nature more? And wow, wouldn’t that be wonderful?!

Here’s a tip – stay for the credits and listen to Scarlett Johansson (Kaa) sing “Trust in Me”. You don’t want to miss her seductive version of this tune!!

My recommendation, go see this movie. See it on the big screen in RealD 3D and you’ll be blown away! When the movie ended, all I could think is I want more!!

Let me know what you think when you do see it, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  3. Hi Lita!

I had mixed feelings about taking my son (or more like wanting) to see this movie, but after reading your review, I’m sold! Why didn’t wanna go? Well, I don’t enjoy kids movies and spending time with a room full of kids isn’t what I want to do on a Saturday afternoon. Since you recommend to watch this fantastic movie…I have to see what Lita is buzzin about. Thanks for your review and hope you CONTINUE to recommend fun movies and other fun vegan foods to brighten up my world!
