Garden Rehab
Ready for a very random post of my thoughts when working in the garden this morning?I hope so...otherwise, just skip past this one. It's finally the time of year when I can get back into my yard!! I love seeing all the new sprouts and blooms and smelling all the scents from the awakening herbs...it's divine.I usually spend most mornings out in the garden. After/during that morning cup of tea, before the dog walking, before the breakfast smoothie making, before getting dressed (yes, I'm usually out there in my pajamas) before, well, most anything else.Mornings are my favorite time out in the yard. The light is ethereal, the air is fresh, the bird songs are musical - it's simply a beautiful way to start the day. It's also very meditative time for me - almost an escape before the day begins. I pull some weeds, check on my seedlings, water what's dry and focus solely on what I'm doing at that moment, not thinking about much else - except for today - here's what I thought about:I have this part of the garden that I call "re-hab". I cannot bear to throw any plant out simply because it's not thriving where I've chosen to put it. In fact, I've taken in many plants from friend's gardens because I cannot bear for them to throw them out either. As I was roaming around the garden today I realized something - no plant has ever died in rehab. In fact, they always seem to thrive in rehab. All the plants pictured above were once pretty sad looking dwindling sticks or such. Now, in rehab, look at their beauty! Now this could be due to the fact that originally I planted them somewhere where they just couldn't thrive due to too much shade, too much sun, etc. I'm a bit of a "learn-as-you-go" kind of gardener. But it doesn't seem to matter where I replant something in rehab it recovers and grows beautifully. This has made "rehab" one of my favorite parts of my garden. Now, I don't profess to know much about "re-hab" in the human world, but I wonder if it's similar. I wonder if when you go there you get the time you need, without any of the daily "performance" pressures, to recover, recuperate and to thrive.I hope it is like that.I've seen what a change of scenery, a little faith and a second chance can do for plants. I've seen it many times now and it's a beautiful thing. It has created a beautiful place in my world - a place I love to be.I just thought today I'd throw these random thoughts of mine out there for anyone who may need to hear them at this time in their lives. Have faith, don't give up hope and give chances - the rewards can be amazing.A definite reminder I need to hear often in my life, too.Happy Thursday,
