Travels in Thailand - Sukhothai
Ready for our next stop on our Travels in Thailand tour - another Unesco World Heritage Site? Well, we're still traveling North in Thailand from Ayutthaya, and now we're on our way to Sukhothai.But, before we get there, we're treated to another wonderful experience of just being on the road in Thailand - a roadside market in a little village where we stop for lunch.
I'm falling more in love with Thailand now and the beautiful people who live there.
AND the simple beauty of living in this culture.
After our lunch stop, we continue on our journey to Sukhothai - the capital of the first Kingdom of Siam in the 13th and 14th centuries.

Sukhothai literally means “Dawn of Happiness.
I'd say our happiness is showing in the photo below.
We're visiting in their "Winter", but trust me, the definition of Winter we know here in the States is not the same. Thank goodness for all the beauty around us to distract us.
It is said that this kingdom’s most famous and beloved King Ramkhamhaeng, considered the Founding Father of the Thai Nation, is responsible for all the wonderful qualities that today we define as Thai culture.

After visiting this historical site, we headed to our hotel, the Sukhothai Heritage Resort.
Here we enjoyed a relaxing dip in the pool and a delightful dinner and relaxing evening.
Before I get to our next destination the next morning, I must tell you how while on our way there we were treated to seeing a "parade" of monks moving through the town.
We were told it is a special treat to be able to view the Thai people lined up to make their offerings to their local monks.
Notice most people are wearing the color yellow in honor of the King's birthday.
How beautiful, humble and peaceful are the Thai people?
