Today, we’re heading back on over to the Vegan side.

Blog Birthday Week Day #4

If you enter and win today’s giveaway, you have not just one, or two, but three choices of a prize.

Let’s get started with #1

The Kind Diet

The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone

I’m not sure I can say enough about this book. This is the one that pushed me over the edge with deciding to take the plunge into the vegan world. There’s just something about how it’s written – how Alicia shares her story, her program and her life that makes you feel like I can do this, and why shouldn’t I do this, and WHY am I not doing this already?!

She shares 3 program levels with you so you can decide what works for you and what you think you might be able to stick to in the long-term. You can flirt with vegan foods, take on becoming a vegan or go all the way into the macrobiotic diet world and become a Superhero. She embraces them all and encourages you to make your changes in a kind and accepting way – in other words, be kind to yourself.

One of the best parts, you have the information with you so you can simply try it all and see what works for you now and what you may want to achieve in the future. If you haven’t already read this book, I cannot recommend it enough. If you have read this book, have you also checked out Alicia’s blog/site The Kind Life. I love it too.

Book choice #2 is:

1,000 Vegan Recipes

1,000 Vegan Recipes by Robin Robertson

This cookbook is simply just a staple in my kitchen. The recipes are incredibly easy to follow and, what I love about it, the ingredients are super easy to find. Using the basics you can create fabulous meals in no time. In fact, there’s a whole section on 30-minute meals. Everything I’ve made from this cookbook has been just fabulous. There are really recipes for anything you an imagine in here…and they’re VEGAN. There are also tips on what foods to stock up on and buy and tons of “veganized” recipes to your favorite restaurant foods. There’s even a section on “kid” friendly dishes to try for your little ones. The dessert section is incredible too. I’ve made many desserts from this book that no one would’ve guessed were vegan!

This cookbook has saved me many times when I just didn’t know what I was going to make with the items I had on hand. I love it!

And, book choice #3 is:

Veganomicon cookbook

Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz & Terry Hope Romero

This book is INCREDIBLE if I do say so myself. It’s a really fun read, too. If you’re gun-shy about cooking or simply want to review the absolute basics (like how to even chop vegetables), the first section of this book has got you covered. Want to cook delicious recipes with real “normal” foods? This is your cookbook. There are handy icons to tell you if you can find all the ingredients in a recipe at your regular “around-the-corner” grocery store. This helps if you live where there’s not a specialty “health” food grocery near you. And, like the previous cookbook, there are a lot of recipes you can make in 45 minutes or less….tasty recipes at that!

To enter, really simply, just comment below and share some of your favorite foods with me. It can be anything – even if it’s not vegan. I know favorites change over time, so you could even share what was your favorite when you were 5 (for me peanut-butter and marshmallow sandwiches) to 20 (Cuban yellow rice) to now (vegan red velvet cupcakes come to mind). You can also share which book is just tickling your fancy – the one you might want to have as your own. Just share, share, share.

And, once again if you’d like additional entries, you can:

  • Like Lita’s World on Facebook and leave a comment here on this blog saying you’ve done so, and
  • Follow Lita’s World on Twitter and leave a comment here on this blog letting me know, and
  • Become a follower – either subscribe through a reader, or through the side menus using either Google Friend Connect, your email address, or the BlogFrog link. Just leave another comment here letting me know you’ve done this – YES, subscribe through all of them and each one is another entry.

I’m selecting TWO people for this prize!! Each person will receive the book of their choice. You have until this Sunday, January 30th at noon Pacific time to enter. The winner will be selected using random.org and posted Monday morning.

Good Luck and thanks so much for entering and, well, again, for just being here!!!
~ Lita

P.S. I’m not being compensated in any way for sharing how much I love any of these cookbooks…just sharing what I love because, well, it’s what I do.

  1. My favorite food dish is anything Lita makes for me!!!!! She is an awesome cook!!! Healthy and delish! Hint Lita….soup, soup, soup!!!!

  2. When I was younger, much younger. I loved grilled cheese with peanut butter on top just as it is done cooking so the peanut butter melts a bit.
Right now it’s pecans. I just seem to want them added to everything.

  3. My favorite is a staple soup made with vegetable broth, V8 veg. juice and carrots, celery, onion, pepper and either rice or elbows. I make it just about every week. Sometimes I add chicken

  4. Favorite foods are fruits and veggies. I’m not vegan, but love all the fresh things and try to do as little processed food as possible. I recently discovered some soft dried mango strips with little powdery soft sugar on them at TJs, and they are yummy! My 5year olds love them, too.

  5. What a fun week of blogs!!! So I already “like” on FB, I follow on Twitter so I am commenting here :o)

  6. My favorite food right now is tacos, made from Morningstar Farms griller crumbles. YUM! I just use the El Paso taco kit and add beans, cheese, lettuce, and guac!

For the book I would like…I already own and LOVE The Kind Diet, so I’d love to check out 1000 Vegan Recipes.

    :)

  7. This is such a great giveaway! My favorite thing right now are NuGo Organic Protein bars. They satisfy my chocolate cravings, plus are full of protein and are vegan.
