Day 4 of our vacation brings us FABULOUS weather.
The sun is shining, the views from the B&B are spectacular, we’re rested and ready to get out there and hike.
Our friends, Kimberly and Eddie are interested in hiking to look for petroglyphs and, as luck would have it, Gary, one of the B&B owners knows just where we can find some.
So, we head off down a dirt road (sounds like song lyrics, right?!)
and begin hiking towards the wall of the valley, near some alluvial fans Gary mentioned as a starting point for our hike and search.
We’re lucky to be here at this time of year because the weather is not unbearably hot yet, AND the desert flowers are blooming:
It’s quite a trek from the roadway to the edge of the valley but you easily get lost in the incredible views all around.
As we get closer the rocks and boulders near the cliffs, our search for petroglyphs begins.
Kimberly is the first to find this one:
Can you see the little swirl there?
A fun little marking, but not the most exciting moment…which we start to think may never come until Pops finds this amazing panel of petroglyphs.
It’s like hitting the petroglyph jackpot!
So unreal to think about the people who were here, so long ago, creating these.
Well worth the trek way out here that’s for sure!
We did find a few more smaller panels too.
But the large one was by far the favorite for photographs.
At this point, I’d say what a successful day…little did I know there was more coming….Day 4 to be continued…
