Here’s a little something to try this week and see if it works for you. If it does, maybe you can continue it throughout the year….

Switch to cold water washing.

You can save 80 percent on energy used for laundry and save an estimated $60 a year.

If you already wash in cold water,
try hanging your clothes out to dry instead of using the dryer.
You can save 700 pounds of C02 a year.
I, personally, absolutely love hanging our sheets and bedding out in the fresh air. There’s nothing like cozying up into sweet smelling sheets at night.

  1. Excellent tip! I only wash in cold water with my homemade laundry soap. It works very well, and it’s good for the environment and the wallet too.

#31DBBB visiting. Love your blog, and will be subscribing to your feed. I like your green tips! I’d love to have you link up your blog on Tuesdays (if you’d like) on the DIY Green Living blog hop at Green Earth Bazaar. It’s a way to connect with others who share an interest in green living, the environment, and all things DIY.

    Peace,

    Michelle ;)

  2. What a great tip! I use cold for everything except diapers. Even though I’m in a townhouse, I have a couple wooden clothes horses but would love a line. Very jealous of yours!

  3. I have a front loader which is great and I use cold on everything except towels. One tip I have is unless you have a blue collar job (we don’t) you can wash your clothes on the short cycle, believe me that’s enough swishing to get your stuff clean!

  4. Hi!

Saw your comment on the *comments* thread and thought I would come by to take a peek at your blog and leave you one.

I went ahead and followed your blog because I would want others to do that for me, because I love giving a boost to those who are just kicking off their blogging journey, and because this is a beautiful blog! I’ll be honest with you about something though … normally I wouldn’t be attracted to your blog because … well … I’m just tired of *Green* lectures! (No this post isn’t a lecture but obviously environmentalism/green living is important to you.) And I’m more inclined to an Atkins diet than I am a Vegan one. If we can get past those little lifestyle choices though we can probably build a friendship! :)

  5. I really want to get a clothes line. One of those things I just haven’t gotten around to yet. Line dried clothes do smell wonderful! Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier.
