Yes, we flew to Hawaii today..phew we made it even after all my guilty-feelings and preparations. Thanks everyone for your encouragement and support. I’ll admit it takes me a bit to get motivated to go somewhere, but I’m NEVER sorry once I get there. I can tell this trip will be no different!

Since it’s Meatless Monday and this topic sort of fits with that one, I’m going to share with you my “vegan” food packing tips for this trip. I realize the flight is less than 6 hours long, but having to get up early to catch our flight added a bit more “food” planning to consider for the whole trip. What I mean by this, is that since I’m try to eat every 3-4 hours right now – especially while I’m doing Nia’s Fitness Challenge, I really felt I needed to plan to have the sustenance I needed.

Here is what I packed for the flight for both Pops and I – and there was nothing left when we got off the plane in Honolulu.

  • 2 almond butter and jelly sandwiches
  • 2 NuGo bars
  • 2 Kind Bars
  • 2 Spicy Lentil wraps for Trader Joe’s (I know I should learn to make these on my own, but I have such an addiction to them!!)
  • 2 apples
  • 2 bananas
  • some dates with almond butter

We also brought along our water bottles and filled them to the brim after passing through security.

I seriously think having enough food to eat on long flights can help so much – especially with the flying anxiety I have. It seems keeping the calories going in on the usual routine keeps my body in a state of peace.

This also gave me the energy to hike all over our resort, the surrounding beaches and neighborhoods once we got here – to get our bearings.

Pops and I also have a “tradtion” when we travel. Whenever part of getting set up in a hotel room is creating our “hospitality suite”. If we need to go to the store, we do. Then we supply ourselves with bread, almond butter, fruit, nuts, juices and whatever else we need to keep ourselves feeling our healthiest best while on our vacation. It’s such a routine with us after all these years, that we know longer think twice about doing this and getting it all together.

I know we’re on vacation…and it should mean we have a bit of fun too…and I assure you we will…I’ve already been eyeing the Blue Hawaiians they were serving downstairs at the bar. Is it cocktail hour yet?

Happy Monday Everyone!

Hawaiian photos coming soon.

photo shot on our hotel room balcony by our friend Sam who just happens to be on the island too.

Aloha
